Berberine is often sourced from barberry, Oregon grape and goldenseal which themselves are used as dietary supplements. The primary focus of research on berberine has been in metabolic disorders including regulation of blood sugar and associated aspects of metabolic syndrome including improving lipid profiles. It also has potent antioxidant and antiinflammatory effects.
