California poppy

California poppy is a cousin of the other poppy species around the world but is devoid of narcotic compounds. It does however have pain relieving properties and can be used for stress and mood disorders as well as a sedative. It contains a number of bioactive alkaloids including papaverine, noscapine, and tubocurarine, among others. They have been shown to be related to the antiinfalmmatory and pain-relieving effects. It has significant interactions with GABA receptors and may also modulate adrenergic pathways [References 1,2]
