Hobamine

2-hydroxybenzylamine (2-HOBA), is a naturally occurring compound that is at the forefront of new developments to support cellular health [10]. It is naturally found in buckwheat, is orally available, rapidly metabolized, and crosses the blood brain barrier, resulting in brain 2-HOBA levels approximately twice as high as plasma levels [1,2]. 2-HOBA acts as a potent scavenger of reactive aldehyde species (RASP) [5]. RASPs are formed by lipid peroxidation, alcohol oxidation, and polyamine & glucose metabolism and elevated levels of RASPs are generally observed in ocular and systemic inflammatory disease [4]. Recent & registered clinical trials using 2-HOBA show promising effect on multiple cardiometabolic diseases & inflammatory-disease processes [7,8,9].
