Lutein

Lutein is a carotenoid antioxidant found in green and yellow vegetables. It is a strong antioxidant that protects against cellular damage. There may be an important role that lutein and related compounds play in protecting the retina against damage that can lead to macular degeneration. Weaker evidence suggests a possible protective role against cataract formation or progression.
