Urolithin A

Urolithin A is a dietary metabolite of the intestinal microbiota following the ingestion of plant-based food ingredients ellagitannins and ellagic acid (found in berries, nuts, and seeds, and pomegranate in concentrated levels) [2,4]. Urolithin production in the intestine is dependent on the host’s microbiome [9]. It is a natural active substance that has various health benefits, showing decreased oxidative stress, improved cognitive impairment, is anti-inflammatory and anti-aging, activates mitochondrial autophagy, enhances intestinal barrier and exhibiting anti-cancer function [2].
